Brightness and pixel detail answer different questions. This workflow helps B2B buyers compare both under the same screen, room and test conditions.

Short answer: ANSI lumens describe measured light output; native resolution describes the projector’s physical display pixel structure. A brighter projector is not automatically sharper, and a higher native resolution is not automatically more visible in a bright room. Compare them separately, then test the complete image at the intended screen size and ambient-light level.
What each specification tells you
ANSI lumens: light output
ANSI lumens are used to express projector light output under a defined measurement method. ISO/IEC 21118 specifies information to be included in data-projector specification sheets. When comparing quotations, keep the measurement label and test basis attached to the number; a bare “lumens” value without a method is not directly comparable.
Native resolution: the image-forming pixel grid
Native resolution is the pixel structure the projector uses to form the image. It is different from “supported resolution,” which may describe an input signal the device can accept and scale. Ask the supplier to state both fields clearly. A projector that accepts a higher-resolution input does not necessarily display that input at the same native pixel count.
Why buyers need both numbers
Brightness affects whether the image can hold up against screen size and room light. Native resolution affects visible detail, text edges and the amount of scaling needed. Screen material, throw geometry, focus uniformity, contrast, color mode and source quality also influence what the buyer sees.
This is why two samples should not be judged from their specification sheets alone. A useful comparison fixes the variables that are not being tested: same content, same image size, same room, same screen, same source, same picture mode and enough warm-up time for a stable result.

A repeatable sample-comparison method
- Freeze the setup. Record the sample model, firmware, picture mode, source device, connection, screen material, image size, throw distance and room-light condition.
- Verify the specification labels. Separate ANSI or ISO light-output wording from unqualified lumen claims. Record native resolution and supported input resolution as different fields.
- Use a fixed test set. Include fine text, line patterns, dark scenes, bright scenes, skin tones, gradients and motion.
- Check focus across the frame. Set the center, then inspect corners and edges without changing the sample position.
- Repeat at the target image size. A result at a small image is not automatically transferable to a much larger screen.
- Change one variable at a time. Test controlled dark-room and intended ambient-light conditions separately.
- Record evidence. Capture settings, distances and observations. Camera exposure can mislead. Photographs should support direct measurement and side-by-side viewing, not replace them.

- Native resolution and supported input resolutions as separate fields.
- Light-output value with the named measurement method and test condition.
- Recommended image-size range and throw information for the selected configuration.
- Picture modes used for the stated brightness and for normal viewing.
- Sample test acceptance criteria for focus, uniformity, color, noise and thermal stability.
- Exact platform and certified-variant scope, if relevant to the selected model.
